(Allahyarham Othman Puteh, Pelita Bahasa, Mei 2001)
Benar.
There is an amazing story behind the establishment of PERNIM. It starts with a simple relationship with a deaf girl named As. As is a friend of Mona who is Puan Norlina’s youngest sister. As a friend to her sister, Puan Norlina give an effort to make closer and friends with As because she understands the situation of unable person because her youngest sister is also have a problem with her physical ability. One day, she finds that As has a big problem but she realizes that As did not want to share her feeling and problem. Puan Norlina sympathizes with her because she feels that As is like her own sister.
One day, Puan Norlina suspect that As maybe get pregnant because her symptom and body shape is like a pregnant women. She knows well because of her own experience of giving birth for her 5 children that she already have at that time. Without delay, she took As to hospital and surprisingly, As was really pregnant. Puan Norlina was very upset with that news and the situation tend to be more crucial when the doctor verify that As had HIV positive when her baby is almost 7 month during the prenatal period due to her sexual intercourse with a drug addict.
At that time, Puan Norlina was really upset and thinking the best way to save her child. Lastly, she decided to take that child as her adopted child. At first, her husband was so shock with her decision because they are already have 5 children at that time and it may lead to a big problem in terms of financial to support his family. Luckily, at last he agrees with his wife’s decision for the sake of humanity.
On 23rd August 2001, As delivered her baby boy named Muhammad Iman. The crazy idea is not end to that extend. Puan Norlina then decided to have her own baby because she wants to breastfeed Muhammad Iman because she knows that the milk can give antibody to cure the virus. This is because doctor had forbid As to give her milk to the baby. Surprise with the decision of his wife, her husband Roslan at first refused to accept her decision.
Lastly, with the mercy of Allah, Roslan agree with her decision and Puan Norlina was pregnant and giving birth to a baby girl named Nur Elisa Sofea on 20th August 2002. At this moment, Puan Norlina continues her catering business to support her big family.
Muhammad Iman is like a pioneer of everything. After that, she cannot stop herself from adopting the other abandoned children, AIDS-HIV kids and orphan children whose parents have died of the disease because she feels so pity with their future and welfare. Then, she decided to establish the PERNIM (Persatuan Kebajikan Anak Pesakit HIV/AIDS Nurul Iman, Malaysia) as an established non-government organization to take care the welfare of these children. The name Nurul Iman has been taken from the first child adopted by Puan Norlina who is Muhammad Iman; the pioneer for the establishment of this welfare society.
With her struggle effort, PERNIM was successfully registered on 17th March 2004 as one of legal non-government organization in this country. The numbers of the children keep increasing since it was established and Puan Norlina accepts these children to her home with an open heart to gives her unconditional love for all the adopted children. She intends to take in more AIDS-HIV kids, to give them a brighter future and she is also proud that her husband who works for the 12th Brigade of Wardieburn Camp, Kuala Lumpur as well as her seven children who give their support to her busy schedule.
Even though there are people that scorn and sneer at her good deeds, she is now in the process of planning a PERNIM shelter which will cost RM 2.5 million and will be built on land presented by the Selangor state government. This shelter, when it is completed, will house 100 AIDS-HIV children who would otherwise most likely be given the cold shoulder by the majority of the populace.
You can channel your donation to PERNIM’s account at RHB BANK 2-64124-00019124 or using cheque by the name “TABUNG PERLINDUNGAN PERNIM”.
May Allah gives strength to Puan Norlina and her family in continuing their noble effort. May all the effort and contribution done by all the voluntary workers will receive ample blessings from Allah SWT. Ameen.
